Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

The classes within our Year Group this year are: Miss Phipps 2HP, Mrs Easden 2NE and 2CG with Miss Goddard.

Hello, and welcome to Year 2! We are the second year group in Key Stage One. As with the other year groups, life in Year 2 is extremely busy, where we are always on the go and learning lots of new skills. It is a great place to be!

Along with the teachers designing exciting and relevant lessons, we are allowing the children to take control of their learning more this year. We will use them to guide learning through their questions and interests.

WELCOME TO THE AUTUMN TERM!

We are all very excited about being back after our summer break, and our topic for Autumn 2024 is:

Vaynor or Victorian?

We will be starting our journey by learning who Queen Victoria was and when she reigned. This will help us to explore Victorian childhood and eventually, get us thinking about whether we would prefer to be a Vaynor child or a Victorian child.

As we start our learning journey in Geography, we will focus on Coastal towns in the UK and urban cities and plotting these on a map. Through research and observations, we will focus on the differences and similarities in human and physical features whilst also thinking about how the way of lives in these areas may differ too.

In art, we will continue the coastal theme by focusing on the artwork of Amiria Gale. The children will have the opportunity to explore using different medium, colouring mixing and sketching techniques. Finally, they will be able to create their own artwork inspired by that of Amiria Gale, using clay to create a shell tile.

In Science, we will be focusing on materials and their properties. This will include having the opportunity to try some experiments to see which materials best fits the property we are researching. The children will then be able to think more in depth about objects and why they are created using certain materials.

Make sure you check our 'Learning Journey' tab to find out what we will be getting up to!

Please remember...

If you have any concerns regarding your child, please feel free to contact your class teacher through the Arbor. If you feel that the matter has not been resolved, please contact Miss Phipps, who is the Year 2 Leader.
