RED Reading - Reading Every Day Incentive

At The Vaynor First School we take reading very seriously and value your support by reading with your child at home. We know how reading not only develops your child’s love of books and their reading fluency, but how it significantly impacts on their life-long writing skills through the improvement in their understanding and use of a breadth of vocabulary. This is therefore at the heart of our teaching approaches in school.

We are very excited then, to announce that we are continuing with our reading reward scheme called RED Reading. RED Reading stands for ‘Reading Every Day’ and we are aiming to encourage all of our children to read for a period of time out of school with a parent, carer or family member every day.

At the beginning of the school year, your child will receive a Reading Diary in which you can record every time that they have read at home. These will be checked every Monday and if your child has at least 5 signed reads from the previous week, then this will be recorded by their class teacher onto the RED chart in their classroom.

RED Reading celebration assemblies take place every half-term so if your child has 6 consecutive weeks of 5 reads then they will receive a certificate. These assemblies take place at 6 weeks, 12 weeks, 18 weeks, 24 weeks and 30 weeks.

If your child achieves the amazing accomplishment of reading 5 times every single week for the entire school year, then they will receive a RED reading trophy and a 36-week certificate.
