What is Pupil Premium?

The Government has allocated an amount of money known as the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) or have ever been in the last six years, those who are Looked After or have been looked after in the last six years, children of parents in the armed forces, and their less disadvantaged peers. The funding is intended to narrow the attainment gap between these groups of pupils by reaching those pupils who need it most. Schools are obliged to report annually on how they spend this money and what impact it has on pupil progress.

Our principles for how the money is spent

• We will use it to ensure that teaching and learning at our school meets the needs of all pupils.
• We will ensure that suitable and timely provision is made for pupils who belong to all vulnerable groups.
• We also recognise that not all pupils who are vulnerable are registered or qualify for free school meals.
• We reserve the right to allocate Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has identified as being vulnerable.
• Pupil premium funding will be allocated based on need. This means that not all children receiving free meals will be in receipt of pupil premium interventions at one time.
