More able pupils are those who demonstrate a significantly higher level of ability than most pupils of their age. This could be general intellectual ability or in:
- specific academic aptitude
- creative thinking
- artistic abilities
- physical ability e.g. athletics, football
- leadership qualities
- social skills
- ability in the expressive arts e.g. dance, drama
There are also 1-2% of each year group, across the country, who are regarded as gifted. These children are achieving at least two years above that expected for their age range in a subject.
As with all children at The Vaynor, the more able are identified through regular assessments undertaken in school and, once noted their names are placed on a More Able Register. These children are stretched through activities and experiences at an appropriate level within class
