We are also supported by Mrs Gibbons through the year group and by Mrs Butler (4DO)

The Year 4 team is delighted to begin this special and exciting year with the children. The term ahead will be filled with fun, exciting learning, new challenges and wonderful opportunities for the children to discover new things, develop their skills and grow in confidence.

As the children enter Year 4, they will be encouraged to work hard, challenge themselves and always try their very best. They will learn that mistakes are an important part of learning and that perseverance, determination and a positive attitude can help them overcome challenges. By working hard and taking pride in their learning, the children will be supported to achieve their goals and become the very best they can be.

Year 4 is a particularly special year at Vaynor, as it is the children's final year at our school. Throughout the year, the Year 4 team will work closely with the children to prepare them for the next exciting stage of their educational journey. They will develop greater independence, confidence, responsibility and resilience, equipping them with the skills and attitudes they need to embrace new opportunities.

AUTUMN TERM - Blitz & Pieces! 

This term our topics are focused on World War Two.  Our enquiry-based question is: “What was it like for children during WW2?”  We will be exploring this question throughout our curriculum with a particular focus on history and geography. The children will learn about evacuation and the experiences of children who were evacuated from cities to the countryside. They will explore why children were evacuated, how they travelled, where they stayed and what life was like for both evacuees and the families who welcomed them. The children will use a range of historical sources, including photographs, posters, letters and personal accounts, to develop their understanding of what life was like for children during this significant period in history. Through our enquiry, the children will consider how the war affected children's everyday lives, including their homes, families, education and communities. They will develop their understanding of cause and consequence, historical evidence, chronology and geographical location, while making connections between the past and the world around them today.

Our learning will provide opportunities for the children to ask questions, investigate evidence, develop their reasoning skills and build a deeper understanding of the experiences of children during WW2.
