Multiplication Timestables Check (MTC)

Learning the times tables is a fundamental and significant element of the maths curriculum which children need to know. Being fluent and secure at these, allows the children to apply this knowledge and access so many other areas of the curriculum e.g. fractions, division, statistics and shape.

To support the children with recalling multiplication and division facts, we have a whole school mental maths programme called Leapfrog. This begins in Year 1 and continues until the children leave us at the end of Year 4. Please see the attached letter for more information.

In 2022, the Government introduced a statutory multiplication assessment for children in Year 4, called the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). This is an online, timed programme designed to ask children 25 multiplication questions which are generated at random. The children have 6 seconds to read, solve and type each answer. The assessment is conducted in June of each academic year. For more information on this, along with top tips for learning tables and resources, please click on the PowerPoint below.

If you wish to practice, please have a go at some of these.
