Year 3
Welcome to Year 3!
The classes within our Year Group this year are:
Mrs Coombs (Year Lead) and Mrs Turton 3CT
Miss Thomas 3ST
Miss Harbun 3SH
We are also supported by Mrs Gibbons, Mrs Butler and Miss Smith.
This is a very exciting year in school as children enter Key Stage Two where they will adapt to new routines and adhere to the expectations of being in Key Stage 2.
Whilst children inspire and drive their learning forward throughout the year, we ensure that all key learning objectives are covered in a variety of engaging ways. Please have a look at our curriculum map to see what we are covering.
If you have any concerns regarding your child, please feel free to contact your class teacher through Arbour. If you feel that the matter has not been resolved, please contact Mrs Coombs who is Year Group Leader and Key Stage Leader.
SPRING TERM

Forces of Nature
This term we will be learning about volcanoes and rivers. Our enquiry-based questions are: “Do Rivers Help or Hinder Life?” and "Why do People Choose to Live Near Volcanoes?"
The children will investigate rivers and volcanoes and discover how they are formed and how they change over time. They will learn about the journey of a river from its source in the mountains to its mouth at the sea, finding out about features such as streams, waterfalls, meanders and deltas. They will also explore what happens when a volcano erupts and learn about lava, ash and magma. The children will find out where some of the world’s famous rivers and volcanoes are located and learn how they can shape the land around them. The children will use maps, pictures and simple scientific investigations to build their understanding, and they will develop their geographical vocabulary to describe what they observe. They will have opportunities to ask questions, share ideas and present what they have learnt about rivers and volcanoes.
AUTUMN TERM
Romans on the Rampage
This term we will be learning about the Romans. Our enquiry-based question is: “Life as a Roman soldier – great or gruesome?” We will be exploring this question throughout our curriculum with a particular focus on history and geography. The children will investigate the Roman invasion of Britain and explore what life was like during the Roman era. They will learn about the role of a Roman soldier and experience what it was like living in Roman times. The children will be participating in an interactive Roman day after half-term where they will explore artefacts, take part in Roman traditions and learn more about the Roman way of life.
Children will learn about different types of volcanoes around the world, developing our subject knowledge through the reading and writing of non-fiction texts.
Make sure you check our 'Learning Journey' tab to look at examples of the children's work including photos to show what activities they have been getting up to!
