Eco School Award
In 2008 Rachel Parry re-established an Eco School committee and together
the children and her worked on moving the school towards becoming an
ECO school. This engages the school community in considering what we
can do to improve our environment from considering a diverse selection of
improvements we could make from recycling to saving power to shopping for
local produce. In April 2009 they were successful in achieving a Bronze
Award for the school and are working towards a Silver one next. Well done to
them! |

Working with schools around the World
In 2006 the school was granted Stage One of the International School
Award by the British Council. This recognised schools that are working
in the International Dimension. We were also granted 2000 Euros a year
for three years to carry out a project working together with schools in
Turkey, Greece, Slovenia, Poland and Romania. The project also fits with our
Healthy School work as it is investigating and growing organic food, sharing
our knowledge about food in our local area with people in our fellow project
schools. In 2007 staff from each of our link schools visited The
Vaynor and we visited Turkey, in 2008 we travelled to Gdansk in Poland and
Smarje in Slovenia. The children were very excited in each
school and benefited from meeting with peoples from outside their own education
system.
Year One are working with a school in Matalascanas, a large village on
the coast in southern Spain as they are linking their work with customs and
cultures in Spain. In February 2007 one of the teachers from there visited
our school for 3 weeks working with many classes, sharing her culture and
learning from our education system. She wrote a paper on return to Spain and
has begun to use some of our techniques with her pupils as she teaches them
English. She is also enthusing others.
